Two Pictures
Logos in an Advertising world
Logos have made an advertisers job easier. Advertisers don't really have to worry about product recognition. Once a logo is established it is easily recognized. If you see a big yellow M you automatically think McDonald's. If you see a red head with freckles and two pigtails you think of Wendy's. It is hard to set one up but once that happens then the advertisers just need to stick with it in their regular advertisements and half of the work is done for them.
I like that we have logos. It makes it easier for people to recognize a product that they like or one they don't recognize. I am big on trying new things and I know which logos are brands I have tried and ones that I haven't. It is easier to recognize pictures rather than words.

Advertising Effects on the Comsumer
Call me easily influenced, but I am sure that there are many out there who would agree with me. I'll be the first to admit that I am influenced by the advertisements that I see on a regular basis. Maybe it is because I am interested in going into advertising, but I have always loved watching commercials. It excites me to see the products that I see advertised on TV in the stores and it definitely influences me to purchase those items. I am a sucker for a sale and a new name brand or product.
I come from a family of what I like to call "muters" and I'll explain what I mean. While watching a television program, whenever a commercial comes on, they immediately MUTE the television. This bugs me to NO end because I miss out on all the commercials and new products! There have even been times where after watching a commercial for a restaurant or food product, I suddenly want to go to that particular place or eat that food; sometimes to the point that I will go right there and then. I feel that advertising has a great influence on the way we shop; where and when and how. I am sure that there are more strong-willed people out there, but as for myself, I am a victim of good advertising.

Two paragraphs from Cortney
My roommate once told a story about how advertising saved his life.
He was swimming in California. His friends and him decided to do some cliff jumping. While up there, they saw an advertising billboard. It said, "Look before you leap." It was advertising some kind of financial company. But they took it to heart and checked out the cliff from below. They saw a branch sticking out where they would have dropped.
Advertising dishes out information to the mass public. Because of this, people really should do their homework before readily accepting the ideas promoted as truth. Ads just want to sell. Think about how much of an education advertisements can be. But maybe ads do do more for us, like in the story above.
